Slow boat from Bangkok to Ayutthaya

Board the Mekhala, a teak wood rice barge that has been converted into a river cruiser, and set off up the Chao Phraya River towards Ayutthaya, with spectacular views of the Grand Palace and Temple of Dawn as you leave Bangkok. Just after the sunset, the Mekhala docks at Wat Kai Tia, a Thai temple set in a tranquil rural village. Here an exquisite delicious candlelit dinner is served on the deck before you overnight on board in your air-conditioned cabin. In the morning the boat docks at Bang Pa-In pier for a tour of the nearby summer palace of the Chakri dynasty, Bang Pa-In. The original Bang Pa-In was built by King Prasat Thong on the island and was used as a country residence for the later kings of the Ayutthaya period. Afterwards continue on to Ayutthaya by road for an afternoon exploring the ruins with an expert guide.
