What is the best time to visit Vietnam?

Vietnamese weather is perhaps amongst the hardest in the world to categorise as its unique geography creates several very distinctive weather patterns across the country. The best time for an all-round tour of Vietnam is between the months of February and April when, for perhaps the only time in the year, all areas of the country enjoy pleasant temperatures and very little rain. In the north the cold weather is retreating to be replaced with warmer temperatures, while in the centre of Vietnam during this time one can enjoy excellent weather without suffering from the hot summer sun, and in the south the weather is still dry and fine before the rainy season.

Other recommended time to visit depend more on the region you wish to visit. In the north temperatures can get cold in December and January, but the months around this time – October & November, and February & March - enjoy excellent weather before the cold sets in and is therefore a good time to visit northern Vietnam.

In the centre of Vietnam the early months of the year are very pleasant with relatively cool temperatures and bright skies making it a great time to visit the region. The central region also has an unusually late monsoon period which means that, whilst it rains in the rest of Vietnam the months of June, July and August are all good choices for a trip to the area. Perfect for a family summer holiday!

The weather in Southern Vietnam follows a more traditional Southeast Asian pattern with November to April being warm and dry and therefore an ideal time to visit before the hot and rainy season starts in May. See our inspiring range of experiences in Vietnam

The north and south of Vietnam have very similar rainy seasons which run from May to September; this period sees a large amount of rain falling in humid climates. The rainy season in central Vietnam is shorter than other areas of Vietnam and runs between September and December each year; however this period sees high winds and large amounts of rain, particularly in October & November, meaning it is not an ideal time to be visiting the region.
