Sun Moon Lake
In the centre of Taiwan, Sun Moon Lake is the largest body of fresh water on the Island and is one of its most outstanding places of natural beauty. The lake gained its name due to its shape, with the western side of the lake being shaped like a crescent moon and the eastern side like the sun. Between the ‘sun' part and the ‘moon' part, right in the centre of the lake, is Lalu Island, which is considered a sacred place to the local Shao people. Surrounded by forest-clad mountains and famed for its good all year round weather, the area is a fine place to go hiking, do a cycling tour or a boat trip on the lake itself.
