Climate - Laos
Laos can be visited throughout the year as every season has something special to offer. The coolest months are December through February. In Luang Prabang, and the north, night time temperatures can approach freezing but daytime can be like spring in Europe. It is necessary to take along a pullover or jacket during the cool season as nights can be chilly, especially in the mountainous areas such as Luang Prabang, the Plain of Jars, Saravane and Huay Xai.
March through May are the hottest months, sometimes exceeding 40C for a few days. June through August are the wettest months and temperatures seldom exceed 28C or 29C due to extensive cloud cover. It is lush then, and the sun does poke through from time to time, making it excellent for photography. September through November, the dry season starts to dominate rural and city life.
For visitors travelling between the end of March and the beginning of April, please note in the mountainous area where “slash and burn” cultivation remains the smoke may cause a haze forcing domestic flights to be delayed or cancelled.
